Hi Property,
I’m assuming that you are the same person that asked me this question on my blog yesterday, so I will just respond here.First of all ***I’m not a mathematician***, so keep that in mind when reading my opinions. The two spreadsheets are the result of me trying to apply statistical significance calculators to my PPC ad testing–I did… -

chadsummerhill posted on the forum topic Does ’Optimize for Conversions’ rotation setting take CTR into account? in the forum Google AdWords: 1 year, 1 month ago
We’ve been using our homegrown system to change CPA bids while using Conversion Optimizer with great success for the past 2 years. We are thinking about testing using our homegrown system to set straight CPC bids or in combination with Enhanced CPC instead of Conversion Optimizer. I have to be careful though, we have a lot of [...]

Interesting. We have a much, much higher conversion rate and 10′s of thousands more leads than what you’ve listed here, but then you say that one account worked with only 100 conversions and a very low CR. Also, I’m assuming that most accounts won’t have near as many conversion or as high a CR as [...]

I’ve never noticed anything before. I see what you’re saying though. I normally only test one ad against a champion at a time anyway…sometimes two. In the accounts that failed with Conversion Optimizer, what were their conversion rates? I think it works so well for us, because we have a lot of conversion data (very high [...]

I hope the PM is correct, otherwise the feature probably shouldn’t be used.

Google Product Manager says on quora:” it optimizes for conversions per
impression, i.e., CTR * CVR, rather than simple conversion rate or the
absolute number of conversions.”Which is different from what my rep told me. But what Prabhu says makes more sense. -

I’m not doing anything special with them in GA…guess I could tell them apart with the destination url (I changed the order of the parameters in the query string. Besides that they look just like the keyword dest url).I like your idea of tracking them to show up as their own campaign.

Finally Google told me what’s going on; its site links that are causing the issue. When a searcher clicks on a site link it use the site link url not he keyword url. I should have known this. I will have to use the {copy:} ValueTrack parameter to get the right tracking: http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=190706… -

It’s neither of the issues you mentioned. Still waiting for any of my 4 Google reps to respond to my emails. Maybe they can shed some light on this? I’ll keep you posted. Thanks for the help being so responsive! I know you are out of the country.-Chad

Yeah, in search. I’m digging into the analytics and it’s not coming from the ad it’s definitely the keyword. Google is stripping out some of my query string parameters for some unknown reason. Every run into this? Examples query strings: with missing parameters (‘g=’, ‘m=’): r=m01100&refnum=googlemv&c=G/MOVING/US&k=moving…[Read more]

Why would AdWords use the destination url from an ad instead of the keyword when the keyword has a destination url? This is messing with my web analytics tracking.
